Batman: The Animated Series
OVERVIEW
Poison Ivy's real name is Pamela Lillian Isley, a Gotham City botanist obsessed with plants, ecological extinction, and environmentalism. One of the world's most notorious eco-terrorists, she uses plant toxins and mind-controlling pheromones for her criminal activities, which are usually aimed at protecting endangered species and the natural environment. Poison Ivy has been portrayed as a love interest of Batman and has teamed up on occasion with fellow villains Catwoman and Harley Quinn, with Harley being her close friend, romantic love interest, and recurring ally. Although Poison Ivy's look has evolved over the years, she typically wears a green one-piece outfit adorned with leaves and has plant vines extending over her limbs. Poison Ivy was originally characterized as a supervillain, but as of the New 52 and DC Rebirth, she has periodically been depicted as an antiheroine, often doing the wrong things for the right reasons.
PERSONALITY
Who is Pam Isley? What makes her tick?
The short answer is she's an eco-terrorist nature freak, who goes through bouts of hating men and humankind all at the same time, in part due to men screwing her over personally and human greed screwing over nature overall. Out of the entire Rogues Gallery, she's the villainess with almost altruistic overall goals; she doesn't go after people who've personally affronted her 9 out of 10 times. Instead, she goes after those whose greed has 'overgrown' as it were. She goes after the people who make political and business moves that would destroy parts of the planet wholesale, parts of nature; she doesn't want to be famous or well-known in particular, like some of the Rogues (though she doesn't mind it, really), she mostly just wants justice for the planet that cannot create its own justice outside of climate change...which still harms animals just as much as it harms human beings.
Thus it's not, you know, the best solution.
That does not mean she isn't petty or revenge-driven, but it does mean that Pam is more of a bigger picture kind of thinker. She's not going to poison the entire ship just because she doesn't belong in spaaaaaace - in fact, she's likely to grow a garden for the ship's interior before going the violent route. Essentially Pam needs to be triggered by something to go on a violent spree. Either someone has to do something, like say, clear-cut a forest or pull the petals off a flower in front of her (look, I never said her reactions were safe or sane) before she'll respond with fury. If no one provokes her, well; she'd make a decent ally, actually, and doesn't tend to backstab. If she's out of money, she might steal some stuff here or there (or everywhere, because Pam is a bit of an opportunist). She likes poisons because they inflict fear and suffering and cause the body to decay as it should (or turns people into plants, whatever) but she'll just as easily physically throw down if need be.
Most, if not all, of what I've written so far are things that Pam will easily admit to. She recognizes that her passion is of the 'unhinged' variety, her reactions are fairly nuclear in scale and that her methods are dangerous by far; she doesn't find herself under any kind of illusion in regards to that aspect of her personality. However, there are things she won't admit, and I'll go into those next.
Earth? Mother Nature? Means a lot to Pam and part of the reason for that (beyond being her passion and field of study) is that the planet Earth and Mother Nature as a whole have never let her down. They've never lied to her about what they're on about, or what they want from her. Pam feels very betrayed, on a certain level, every time corporate greed wins over the sacred trust given to people to protect their environment and wildlife. That betrayal causes her to lash out, and it is stemmed in a feeling of isolation that is only addressed briefly on the show (the episode Home and Garden, to be exact). Pam can't have children. She can't force a normal life out of her abnormal past and behaviors. She wants to be loved but firmly believes that love is not an option because she cannot carry out part of what nature intended her to be able to do.
Also, you know, eco-terrorist.
This is what makes her relationships with others, and with Harleen Quinzel in particular, very important. She and Harl treat each other as equals; the Rogues Gallery is very much an Old Boy's Club, let's be honest, and poor Harl has been through a lot during her poor decisions time romancing the Joker and acting as his sidekick. Pam doesn't judge Harl for these things (much - the Joker relationship rubbed her the wrong way six ways to Sunday honestly) and Harl, in return, sees Pam as more than just the femme fatale with the killer lipstick. It works for them, and that relationship kind of shows that even though she's unhinged and feels isolated by her own choices and the actions of others, Pam can be a nurturing human being to more than just the plants in her life.
ABILITIES
IVY IS IMMUNE TO ALL POISONS AND TOXINS. Even the ones she makes! However, in the case that is just much too OP I'm more than happy to have her affected by space!poisons or whatever we've got going on here.
Other abilities from the wiki:
In personal combat, Ivy is a skilled gymnast and martial artist and was skilled enough to defeat Batman hand to hand at least once throughout the series. (I. Yeah.)
Poison Ivy's has a unique genetic immunity from all forms of poison or toxin, including Joker Venom. However, in exchange for this immunity, she admits she is infertile.
She is also a chemist. Combined with her botanical background, Ivy frequently concocts poisons, toxins, and serums designed to kill, transform, or protect, depending on her purpose and needs. On top of this, she is a uniquely skilled plant geneticist, able to create large and semi-sentient plant creatures that act as her henchmen.
Now, IN THE COMICS she has a connection to something called The Green; this explains her ability to communicate with plants, create plant-clones, etcetera. In the show this is not exactly defined, and yet there is strong ability crossover there; if the mods allow, I would like to retain this connection to The Green and thus plant life, but not have her be a half-plant metahuman exactly. She's got enough going on without that specific detail.
